CapCut and sister company TikTok are owned by the Chinese company ByteDance Ltd., which has long been under scrutiny by American officials concerned with how it collects and leverages American users' personal data, allegedly including biometric data. "As a result of such concerns, CapCut has been banned in India along with other China-based video-editing apps," the complaint which has been reviewed by ET said. India banned TikTok and nearly 300 other Chinese apps in phases, starting from June 2020, over national security concerns.
