IgA and The Gut Microbiota
over 1 year ago by sg
IgA facilitates the establishment and maintenance of a mutually beneficial connection with gut bacteria, which is essential for maintaining the delicate balance between our bodies and intestinal microbiota. It inhibits the invasion of pathogenic bacteria and other microorganisms by binding to specific antigens, including microbial components, and preventing them from adhering to the intestinal wall. In addition, IgA aids in the removal of germs by encasing them in mucus and encouraging their removal from the intestines. It is interesting to note that the variety and diversity of the gut microbiota can affect the function and generation of IgA antibodies directly.
