What is considered a board member?

A board member is an individual on a company's board of directors which serves as an organization's governing body. Often elected by a company's shareholders, the board as a whole creates company policies and oversees the organization's managerial positions. They guide, advise and operate an organization. Board member are the fiduciaries who steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by making sure the nonprofit has adequate resources to advance its mission.
